Our Medieval Times Adventure in Lyndhurst, NJ

We recently took the kids to the Medieval Times Dinner and Tournament in Lyndhurst, NJ, just a quick 30-minute drive from Midtown Manhattan. It was a lively, family-friendly experience inspired by an 11th-century feast and tournament.

Medieval Times is based on authentic Medieval history and the true story of a noble family with documentation dating back to the 11th Century. The show, which lasts approximately two hours, brings this history to life in a vibrant and engaging way.

At Medieval Times, you'll be served a 4-course meal while cheering for one of six knights competing in jousts and other tests of skill. The atmosphere is electric, with the audience fully immersed in the action, shouting encouragement for their chosen champion.

Arriving to the Show

Our adventure began as we crossed the drawbridge into the medieval-style castle. Upon arrival, we were crowned with the colors of our kingdom, ready to cheer our brave knight to victory. The 11th century came alive as we explored the castle, with suits of armor standing guard and the halls filled with treasures and trinkets.

Before the show began, we gathered in the Hall of Arms, where medieval artifacts and elaborate decor awaited us. Coats of arms from prestigious families adorned the walls, and a spectacular array of medieval weaponry was on display. The kids loved seeing the swords and shields, and we even considered purchasing a sword from the gift shop. For the adults, the bar offered a selection of beverages to kickstart the festivities.

We also had the chance to partake in a pre-show knighting ceremony and meet the highly skilled horses and a falcon that are part of the show. It was a magical experience that made us feel like we were part of the medieval world.

The Show

The arena was filled with the sounds of clashing swords and the cheers of the audience. Six knights, each representing a different kingdom, competed in a series of thrilling events, including jousting, sword fighting, and tests of skill. The excitement in the room was palpable as each knight demonstrated their prowess and bravery.

After a series of intense and exhilarating battles, one knight emerged victorious and was named Defender of the Throne. The crowd erupted in applause and cheers as the champion accepted his title. It was a moment of triumph that perfectly capped off the incredible show.

The delicious 4-course meal, served in a medieval setting, added to the authenticity and enjoyment of our visit. It was a feast fit for royalty, perfectly complementing the excitement of the tournament.

The feast began with a warm and hearty bowl of tomato bisque soup, served with a slice of garlic bread. The soup was rich and flavorful, and the garlic bread was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, providing a delightful contrast to the soup.

The main course featured a generous portion of roasted chicken. The chicken was perfectly cooked, with a crispy skin and tender, juicy meat. It was seasoned to perfection, offering a savory taste that was both comforting and satisfying. Eating with our hands, just like in medieval times, added a fun and authentic touch to the meal.

Accompanying the roasted chicken was a herb-basted potato and a piece of corn on the cob. The potato was well-seasoned and roasted to a golden brown, while the corn was sweet and buttery. These side dishes complemented the chicken beautifully, adding a variety of flavors and textures to the meal.

To finish off the feast, we were treated to a delectable pastry of the castle. This dessert was a sweet and satisfying end to our meal, with a flaky crust and a delicious filling that delighted our taste buds.

Throughout the entire show, the kids were so excited that they couldn't stay in their seats. They kept jumping up and cheering loudly for their favorite knight. Their excitement was obvious as they watched the show with wide eyes, clapping, and shouting with joy. They were completely involved in every part of the performance, showing just how much fun they were having.

Our trip to Medieval Times in Lyndhurst was an unforgettable experience for the whole family. The combination of thrilling entertainment, delicious food, and a rich historical atmosphere made it a perfect outing. If you're looking for a unique and exciting family adventure, Medieval Times is a must-visit!
